Well Matthew is still in the zone today. His eyes are fixated on the TV and he hasn't slept in 36 hours. At this point I think he is in frank steroid/medication induced psychosis. Poor little buddy. On the happier note, his two chest tubes came out and that hated right atrial line (who puts a line directly through the wall of a new heart?) I have never seen that before and it came out also. He still has a mediastinal drain in but that should come out later today. We can then pick him up. Not sure that will help anything though. Finally, they said that as soon as his mediastinal drain comes out that he will be transferred out of the ICU. I am sure that they can't wait.

I asked the Dr. about the mental status and he said that he would likely be this way until he gets home to his own bed, his own home, and his own food. Lets pray for a 2 week stay and not a 4 month stay like the last one.

  1. you're right about two things, Matt. This is HELL. And Hell won't last, not for you, not for Chrissy, not for the Tough Guy.

Other than that, I don't know what to say. I cannot speak to your pain or to Matthew's, and I can barely speak through my own. Could the final facts of knowing that you are loved and are not alone be of any comfort to you? What I wouldn't do for you & Chrissy & all 3 kids right now...

  2. Matt & Chrissy - thank you for sharing this blog. We are mindful of you and your little guy (the same age as our Ammon) as you go through these incrdible trials. Remember that we live in PG and if there is anything here in the area that we can do for you please don't hesitate to ask. You and little Matthew are in our prayers & we hope the news improves as does his condition and recovery. ~your cousin Emily

  4. Poor little Matthew. You guys are amazing. I wish we could do something from here. I feel so helpless. A familiar feeling for you guys, I'm sure. We're thinking of you though, and are still praying hard. Hang in there.

  5. Crissy, just wanted to check in with your blog. I'm glad you're doing this and we can hopefully let you know how much love and support you have. We announced this blog in RS today and want you to know that we miss you and are keeping Matthew and your family in our prayers. Many people fasted for your family in the last 24 hours and every prayer said at church today included a petition to the Lord for strength and comfort for all of you. We're all hoping for a good week for all of you!! Love, Corinne Barton
