We just wanted to thank all of you for your words of kindness, your prayers, and your support. A big thank you to our fabulous ward for the ward fast! Matthew has had a great day (I'm keeping my fingers crossed). He is fairly mellow and seems to be comfortable. We are working out a few minor issues (like not eating and throwing up what is fed through his NG tube) but after the past several days today is much better. We have been rejuvenated this Sabbath day as Matt and I were able to attend a small sacrament service at the hospital- I got tears in my eyes because I realized our own ward was fasting for our family at that moment and I was filled with gratitude. Also, Joshua and Luke have been able to visit Matt and me at the hospital thanks to the Bishop's kindness in lending us his trailer. The kids think the trailer is the greatest thing ever. Joshua and Luke were able to visit Matthew today for the first time which made them so happy. Matthew was really happy too! Though mellow, you could see the joy in his bright, blue eyes. Today is a much more encouraging day. As we know, there are lots of ups and downs here in the cardiac ICU, but we are enjoying this up! Thanks again to everybody for buoying us up this day!!!

  1. Thank God, Thank God, Thank God. I was hoping that i'd see good news the next time I checked in. But I've always believed in him, I've always believed in my little Captain Chubbycheeks. Thank YOU for sharing this respite with us, and i'm especially grateful for the new picture posted. He looks like himself! I love that boy.

  2. PS - Chicago sends a big shout out to the Sperry's ward and to the bishop! Thanks for doing what we want - but are unable - to do, being so far away.

  3. I am so sorry for what you have had to experience in the last 24 hours, and am so happy that things have improved. We are praying for a quick recovery so he can be home with Misti and the family soon. You will get your smiling, happy baby back (with much more energy than before)...that's the one thing that kept me going during Erica's recovery.

  6. sorry, me again...I just talked to my sister who is a PICU RN. I had her decipher for me some of the stuff Matt is explaining...she said the BEST thing to do for each of the 3 boys is to let Matthew's brothers visit him. She said, for some reason, babies are more excited to see their siblings even more than the parents & it's great for their spirits. It's also good for the boys, b/c according to social workers, kids fantasize when they can't see the patient and imagine the worse. So it's good for them all. She's praying for Matthew. The whole world is, it seems.

  7. Chrissy and Matt,
It is so nice to see Matthew with less cords around him. He looks more like the Matthew that we all know and love so very much. I hope today was a better day and that tomorrow is even better.
    Lots of Love,
    Ben,Ash,Cami,Kyle,and Brynlee

  8. Matt and Crissy, I am sitting here weeping for you and your sweet little guy. I know that things are hard, but know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. It will get better. Thanks for sharing your experience with us and allowing us to fast for you guys. It is good for our youth to "fast with a purpose," and this was a great opportunity.

We're here for you. Like I said, Crissy, I have grandkids here living with us that are the same age as your boys. They are welcome to come down and play.

    Much Love,
    Ann Beal
